Prepare details for the dispatcher

Give your exact location, VIN, what happened, and any warnings on screen. Add the Model 3 or Model Y generation, year, drivetrain, and vehicle condition: whether it powers on, moves, shifts to Neutral, and rolls, and whether any wheels are damaged. These details help the dispatcher choose a suitable professional and clarify loading conditions. If available in your country, use Roadside Assistance in the Tesla app; a contact may also appear under Service.

Ask the transporter to check the manual

Tesla provides a separate Instructions for Transporters chapter for each model and generation. The versions checked here say the wheels must not rotate during transport and recommend a flatbed; they describe an alternative only with conditions and special equipment. This is not a ready-made instruction for a recovery driver: the method depends on the vehicle version, its condition, the scene, and available equipment. Before work begins, ask the professional to check the exact manual or get Tesla guidance.

Do not assume a universal towing method

Do not assume it is enough to lift one axle, pull from the hitch, or simply select Neutral. Incorrect transport can damage the drivetrain. Do not try to change modes, attach towing equipment, or supply power yourself unless you know the exact procedure for this version. If the vehicle is locked, will not power on, has damaged wheels, or is on a slope, tell the dispatcher before the truck arrives.

Keep people clear before loading

Turn on hazard lights if it is safe, then move behind a barrier or to a protected location. Do not stand between the car and recovery truck, go underneath the vehicle, or try to hold it on a slope. If there is a risk of fire, collision, or injury, call your country’s emergency service. After loading, confirm the vehicle is secured and that the transporter has your destination and a way to reach you.

Keep in mind: Do not give a universal towing instruction; have a professional use the manual for the exact vehicle.

For your vehicle and software, the in-car manual and release notes are the most precise references.
