Third-party Tesla apps: start with data permissions

The application with travel statistics and the application for remote management solve different problems. Before connecting, state what you need: a charging log, viewing status or commands to the car. Tesla provides third-party Fleet APIs to work with data and commands. Access is provided by the owner; the mere fact of using this interface does not confirm the presence of all functions in any application. Before you pay or set up, check with the developer for support for your model, software version and country, as well as how to connect the car.

On the permissions screen, distinguish information about the car, its location, charging control and commands. The latter category may include actions such as unlocking and remote startup. If the task boils down to a charging report, find out why the service needs additional rights. Tesla recommends that you study the source of the application and the conditions for processing the transmitted data in advance.

Open the list of connected services in Tesla Account: Account Settings → Security → Third Party Apps. Permissions management is available for the selected application. Tesla warns that synchronizing the change could take hours. Therefore, after disabling an unnecessary service, it is useful to check its status again later.

Before looking for a third-party replacement, make sure the basic feature you want works in the official Tesla app. It requires a handed over to the owner of the car and enabled mobile access. In case of problems, start by checking the account and version of the application. Reinstallation may require re-associating the phone as a key, so consider this before removing the app.
