Tesla’s new Roadster jumps and flips: what we know after the reveal
Tesla showed the next-generation Roadster at an event in Texas. We separate the demonstration stunts from the claimed versions and specifications, production timing, and the questions that remain for buyers in Europe.
Models: Next-generation Tesla Roadster; claimed Performance, Thrust and Rocket versions.
Checked on October 16, 2026 against Tesla’s Roadster page, its regional qualifications and three videos from Tesla’s official channel. Specifications and production timing are Tesla claims; production testing, final pricing, delivery timing and European approval are unconfirmed.
Tesla presented the next-generation Roadster at SpaceX’s site in Texas on October 15, local time. The nine-year wait ended with a dramatic demonstration: the car drove upside down on a ramp, then jumped and flipped using cold-gas thrusters. This was a real demonstration on a closed site; it does not yet show how the production car will behave on public roads.
Three videos from the reveal
The first clip is the stunt Tesla called The Kickflip.
The Ramp shows the car driving upside down on a ramp. Tesla says a fan system and aerodynamic elements hold it in place.
The third video presents the car and its idea as a driver-focused sports car.
What Tesla says about the car
The Roadster has a completely new, more angular design. Tesla describes it as a two-seat car with active aerodynamics. The demonstration used a fan-based suction system and cold-gas thrusters developed with SpaceX. The event showed these systems in action, but their production design, maintenance and everyday-use limits still need a detailed explanation.
Tesla outlined three versions: Performance, Thrust and Rocket. These are manufacturer claims, not independent tests of a production car. Tesla claims under 1.6 seconds for Performance, under 0.9 seconds for Thrust, and under 0.59 seconds for the single-seat Rocket with its full thruster system. It also lists a top speed above 230 mph for Rocket. These figures still need to be checked against production-car testing.
Tesla lists more than 300 miles of range and says production is planned to start in 2028. It has not announced a final price or a delivery date. A reservation deposit, where available, should not be read as confirmation of either the final price or delivery timing. Tesla’s updated Roadster page clarifies that the specifications shown reflect the Thrust augment, offered as an option, and warns that the Rocket trim is not available in all regions. Tesla does not list the excluded markets, so Rocket availability in Europe and Portugal remains unconfirmed.
What European buyers still need to know
Tesla has not published European prices, EU-market configurations, delivery timing or road-approval details for each version. A vehicle appearing on Tesla’s website, or the ability to place a reservation, does not by itself confirm European certification. This matters especially for Rocket: flight and track demonstrations are not a public-road driving mode.
For now, the Roadster is best understood as a revealed project with ambitious technical claims. A practical assessment will have to wait for the production specification, independent testing, European type approval and a confirmed delivery schedule.
